Manhasset

Manhasset is a hamlet within the Town of North Hempstead.  With just over 8,000 residents, in 2005, the Wall Street Journal ranked Manhasset as the best town for raising a family in the New York Metropolitan area. Manhasset is a Native American term that translates to the island town and was settled in the late 17th century.  Today, Manhasset is broken up into sections; Manhasset proper, which consists of North and South Strathmore, Strathmore Village, Strathmore Vanderbilt, Shorehaven, Terrace Manor and Norgate, as well as incorporated villages, namely The Plandomes (Plandome, Plandome Manor, Plandome Heights), Munsey Park, North Hills, & Flower Hill.  Manhasset has two public elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.  The commute to New York City is one of the most attractive features of living here, with trains on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) running often and providing travelers with on average a 35 minute direct route into Penn Station. World class shopping is found at the Americana Manhasset, the equivalent of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or Madison Avenue in Manhattan featuring designer brands such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Ralph Lauren and Hermes. The area continues to appreciate in real estate value as more buyers are flocking to this town than ever before.
